Optical practices situated near Tesco Opticians as well as the chain's competitors all report that they will not be affected by the retailer's decision to offer free eye tests to non-NHS patients and spectacles for £10.
After running a series of limited period free eye examination promotions, Tesco Opticians has elected to permanently provide full free tests across all its practices from February 26 (News 5.3.10).
Specsavers felt its business would not be affected by the free eye tests or £10 frames on offer at the supermarket.
'This will have no effect on the core of our UK customers, who already qualify for free eye examinations and vouchers under the NHS,' a Specsavers spokesperson told Optician.
