The Body Doctor: Healing properties

Manuka honey is the active ingredient in Optimel eye drops for dry eye and Optimel Manuka + Forte eye gel that have been launched by the Body Doctor.

Both products have been developed for evaporative dry eye disease, meibomian gland dysfunction, aqueous tear deficiency and blepharitis.

The Body Doctor explained that manuka honey’s active ingredient is called methylglyoxal, which helps to kill bacteria around the eyelids and creates a micro-environment on the ocular surface. When combined with the Optimel formula, further damage is prevented by healing the surface of the eye because of manuka’s anti-bacterial properties, the company claimed.
