The internet allows the contact lens industry to raise consumer awareness and promote contact lenses and should be regarded as an opportunity rather than a threat.
This was the message delivered by contact lens manufacturer William Thomas in his presidential address to the British Contact Lens Association in London last week (September 16).
Managing director of Northampton-based David Thomas Contact Lenses, Thomas told an audience of BCLA members and guests that company websites could be used to provide information directly to the public as well as to the profession.
In his presentation, entitled 'What have the manufacturers ever done for us?', Thomas reviewed industry developments in materials, manufacturing, logistics, administration and quality systems that had benefited the practitioner.
