BCLA president William Thomas will talk about the interface between industry and profession in his presidential address at the Royal Society of Medicine in London on September 16.

His lecture, entitled 'What have the manufacturers ever done for us!? With apologies to Monty Python and the Romans', will showcase some of the highlights in manufacturing, production techniques and policies implemented by contact lens manufacturers to help increase the market and contact lens awareness in the UK.

Commenting on shared interests of practitioners and manufacturers, Thomas said: 'Contact lens manufacturers need a skilled profession dedicated to fitting contact lenses and the profession needs progressive manufacturers prepared to innovate and deliver products that allow practitioners to meet all of their patients' contact lens needs.'
