A sight loss charity has attacked the DoH for its failure to mention sight loss and the role it plays in people with dementia in a key national policy document published last week.
The Thomas Pocklington Trust claimed there was no mention of sight loss in the National Dementia Strategy which, it said, also failed to highlight the importance of co-ordination between health professionals and eye specialists such as optometrists.
The charity also hit out at the apparent failure of the policy document to recognise the value of 'other professionals' involved in the care of dementia patients. The strategy acknowledged the role of community pharmacists, drama therapists, dentists and geriatricians but failed to mention optical professionals.
