Speaking at a fringe event hosted by the Eye Health Alliance at the Conservative Party's annual conference in Birmingham, shadow health minister Anne Milton MP put the focus on measurable outcomes instead of targets, such as patient experience and quality of life.

A Eye Health Alliance spokesperson commented: 'If the end result is to improve quality of life, surely commissioners are going to be commissioning more optical and eye care services, since improving someone's vision significantly improves their quality of life.'
