UK enjoys bright year for sunglass sales

This year's UK sunglass market probably performed better than 2009, according to the European Sunglass Association's (ESA) ongoing analysis of sunglass retail selling trends.

According to research conducted for the Association by eyewear consultancy Strategy With Vision (SWV), the majority of retailers reported sales in line with 2009 during the early part of the sunglass sales season.

However, SWV said that during the rest of the summer, UK retailers probably profited from a slightly more optimistic mood and a slight improvement in the country's economy. Presenting the results at the ESA's annual meeting conducted around Silmo at Paris' Sofitel hotel, SWV revealed that UK opticians performed well with regards to sunglass sales during 2010 'with a very good balance between the number of sunglasses displayed and the number sold'.
