Evidence of a return in demand for eyewear in the UK for 2010 was given by the Italian Association of Optical Goods Manufacturers (ANFAO) in its 2010 report.
It revealed 'excellent results' for Italian eyewear exports to the UK which increased 24 per cent overall in 2010 in comparison to the previous year. This was an increase of 24.6 per cent in sunglass exports and 23.3 per cent for optical frames.
Commenting on Italy's overall increase of eyewear exports of 17.3 per cent in comparison to 2009, Vittorio Tabacchi, president of the Mido exhibition and ANFAO, said: 'We braved the crisis that blanketed the entire global economy and now, with 2010 results in hand, we can draw our own conclusions: the worst is behind us and our industry knew how to capitalise on the rise in foreign demand.'
