Last year the Guardia di Finanza (Italian Tax Police) confiscated more than 112 million fake products in Italy and according to estimates by the World Trade Organisation, counterfeit goods account for 8 per cent of worldwide trade.

ANFAO president Vittorio Tabacchi said: 'Our sector is strongly impacted by this threat due to the dimensions of the product itself, which make it easier to transport, hide and sell via impromptu channels like street stands, beach mats and flea market stands.
