Sight is the sense that nine out of 10 people fear losing most, according to new findings released to coincide with the publication of the long-awaited UK Vision Strategy.
As reported in Optician, (April 18), the strategy, which has the backing of 650 organisations including the profession, aims to present a unified front on all issues relating to eye health and sight loss.
The survey, commissioned by the RNIB to coincide with the launch of the strategy, showed that 91 per cent of the 1,009 adults questioned said sight was the sense they feared losing most. Findings also revealed an alarming lack of knowledge of the leading cause of blindness in the UK. Only 16 per cent of respondents correctly identified it as age-related macular degeneration.
