US conference unveils new contact lenses and pays tribute to old friends

Bill Harvey reports on new contact lenses attracting plenty of admiration at this year’s American Academy meeting

Among the many tributes being paid to the inimitable Professor Brien Holden at the recent American Academy of Optometry Annual Conference in New Orleans was a reminder of just how dynamic a figure he was in the world of eye care.

Having established Brien Holden Vision (BHV) back in 2013 as a commercial spin off from the Brien Holden Institute, he spearheaded the development of novel new contact lens designs for the management of presbyopia and for the correction of and slowing of the progression of myopia. The former lenses, the so-called Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) lenses, received their FDA licence in May and were very much a focus of interest at the Academy.
