VCHP volunteer celebrates five years

Bradford University clinical tutor and optometrist Benji Chandra reached a fifth-year milestone of volunteering with Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP).

Chandra started volunteering at the Leeds clinic in St Georges’ Crypt after qualifying as an optometrist at Aston University, where he learnt about VCHP while participating in the Optoversity Challenge. He works at the Bradford and York hospitals.

He said: ‘I was drawn to the charity as it is a vulnerable group, so often shunned. The rewarding nature of volunteering is great, and I enjoy meeting other like-minded optometrists, orthoptists and dispensing opticians. It is refreshing to give back as an eyecare professional, and it is not as scary as you might think.
