A team of five arrived back in this country last month after helping hundreds of people in Malawi, East Africa with their vision. The team, led by optometrist Bimal Mandalia represented optical charity Vision Aid Overseas, undertook two weeksÕ intensive work in October and found patients who displayed eye conditions rarely seen in the UK. Mr Mandalia said: ÔHelping these people to see again is rewarding, especially as for some it allows them to return to work, as teachers or tailors for example. Spectacles are virtually unobtainable in Malawi except by the very wealthy.Õ The team examined 900 people and dispensed over 500 spectacles. VAO is currently looking for voluntary help from the profession and can be contacted on 01293 535016.
