More than £16,000 was raised towards the work of Vision Aid Overseas at its recent 2006 Fundraising Ball at Trunkwell Mansion House in Reading.

The ball, organised by David Samuel, managing director of Eyesite Opticians, attracted 170 supporters.

A raffle and auction were held, with prizes of a hot air ballooning weekend and a dinner party for eight at the home of Sight Care chief executive and ex-VAO chairman Paul Surridge, both of which realised £1,000.

VAO deputy director Jeremy Jalie thanked all who supported the event, especially sponsors Ocuco-Relcon, Essilor and CIBA Vision. 'A big thank you must also go to David Samuel, whose enthusiasm and hard work has paid off tremendously,' said Jalie.
