Vision Direct to plead guilty to unsupervised sales of lenses

Vision Direct is due to plead guilty on all charges at a legal hearing tomorrow morning (September 3 at Hendon Magistrates Court) to consider a GOC prosecution over alleged contact lens sales without supervision, Optician has learnt. 

Vision Direct UK faces six summonses under Section 27 of the Opticians Act between May 3 and 18, 2007. The Council alleges that contact lenses were sold by the company without checking specification and without the supervision of an optometrist or a doctor.

However, a court clerk at Hendon Magistrates Court confirmed to Optician Vision Direct had informed the court of its intention to plead guilty at the scheduled hearing.
