The new design is part of a virtual relaunch of the group, following its purchase by French company GrandVision. Mr Lewis revealed that in a programme which started just 18 months ago, two-thirds of Vision Express' frames range will have been changed before the end of this year for 'better style and quality'. The minimalist design, claimed to be unique in optical retailing by the company, now places the group's hallmark - the lens production 'lab' - centrally in each practice. Innovations include overhead mirrors and display boards giving patients waiting for their spectacles a view of the lens production process. The new look has been developed using aspects from Vision Express' French parent company's GrandOptical business. It also commissioned Sir Terence Conran's design company, CD partnership. The redesign started in earnest earlier this year (News, February 5) in Vision Express sites in Bristol, Dublin and Watford, and the redesigned practices now total nine. By the beginning of next month, Mr Lewis said, Vision Express would have refurbished two existing locations in the new look, and opened two others with the redesign already in place. The transformation of all 150 existing Vision Express sites will take between three to four years.
