Visually impaired aim to increase participation in sport

Survey finds visually impaired people want to cycle, swim and go to the gym

Cycling, swimming and going to the gym are the three activities that people with visual impairments most want to get involved with according to a recent survey by Metro Blind Sport.

The online survey was completed by 60 Metro Blind Sport members and 111 non-members, exploring the attitude, preferences and behaviour of visually impaired people regarding physical activity.

Other key findings included 94% of participants feeling that more could be done to encourage participation amongst those with a visual impairment and almost half of participants (47%) revealing that they have to travel more than five miles to participate in sport, with 28% travelling more than 10 miles.
