Discounted eye examinations will be one of the requirements of the VSP Neighbourhood Eyecare scheme being rolled out this summer.
Along with a 20 per cent discount on frames and lenses and a 15 per cent discount on contact lenses, participating practices would be asked to offer patients covered by the scheme a further 20 per cent discount on eye tests.
As part of the new development, VSP Vision Care will partner with the Association of Optometrists, National Eyecare Group, insurance provider Generali UK and business consultants Thomsons Online Benefits.
David Craig, director of marketing and business development at the AOP, said there had been a ‘good number of positive responses’ to the scheme from members, but some were unhappy with the idea of discounting.
