Waterford plant glued to Bausch & Lomb TV

Bausch & Lomb Ireland, the Waterford-based contact lens manufacturing site, has pioneered a new employee communication system with the transmission of internal television news bulletins over the local computer network.
Bausch & Lomb Television is a professionally produced five-minute news bulletin featuring local news, sport, social events and personality profiles as well as business communications for its 1,700 employees.
The company said the project was not very expensive, costing about the same as a normal company magazine. However, there are four updates per month for the price.
Brian Welsh, whose experience as a freelance cameraman with work broadcast on national and local television enabled the fledgling service to get off the ground, said: ÔThere are many projects, process improvements and innovations happening in and around the plant which affect everybody who works here but which go unnoticed by too many people.
ÔWe are fortunate in having the people and the personalities to make this work. We got the commitment of management, IT and network support and the backing of the plant Partnership Forum.Õ
He added: ÔWe hope that this will boost communication in all directions throughout the plant and we will work hard to keep our content fresh, entertaining, informative and reaching all of our audience.Õ
