Managing dispensing optician Betty Watson, of Batemans Opticians in Guildford, Surrey, has received a long-service award from chairman Nicholas Bateman in recognition of her 45-year career with the group.
Ms Watson, who joined Horstmanns Opticians on leaving school in 1955, was later appointed senior receptionist at the Guildford practice after the company was bought by Batemans. She qualified as a dispensing optician in 1970, working for the group's branches in Godalming, Surrey and later in Guildford, where she was appointed manager in 1981.
