Apprentice Charlotte Haynes has celebrated with her colleagues at Willetts & Doig Optometrists in Cowes after she achieved a distinction for her optical assistant apprenticeship.
After 18 months of studying, Haynes was now qualified to ensure patients received a personalised experience by assisting with frame and lens selection.
‘My apprenticeship has given me the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide high-quality eye care to the community. I’ve learned how to carry out pre-screening tests, assist patients in choosing the right eyewear and educate them on the importance of eye health,’ Haynes said.
Haynes thanked her colleagues at the independent for fostering a supportive environment and sharing their knowledge and expertise with her.
Jake Tinney, director at Willetts & Doig, said: ‘Through apprenticeships, new opticians and support staff can learn directly from experienced professionals, gaining hands-on experience in tasks such as fitting frames, adjusting prescriptions, and understanding the nuances of various vision conditions. This practical training ensures that our team can offer personalised, high-quality care to every patient.’
The practice, which was part of the Hakim Group, said it was committed to upskilling its team with training sessions planned and an optometrist completing their pre-reg this year.
