Edgard Opticians founder Jean-François Porte collects his award

Edgard Opticians founder Jean-François Porte was recognised by the International Opticians Association as winner of the Silmo IOA International Optician of the Year Award.

Porte, who founded Edgard Opticians with his partner Julien Quesnel in 2001, grew the business from one to 16 independent optical stores plus eight franchise stores in major cities in France.

The award, first given in 2018, recognises the importance of the optical professional in the business and their role in choosing optimum products for their clientele.

Donald Crichton, IOA president, said that Porte was an example of what can be achieved when you pursue excellence.

‘Among a very talented shortlist, he has triumphed and he deserves our hearty congratulations,’ he said.

Winners of the 30th Silmo D’or Awards were also unveiled at a ceremony, including a win for British brand Cutler and Gross in the optical frame eyewear designer category for its 9126 model.

Other winners included: Children, Etnia Barcelona with Cartoons for kids; Sport, Marchon with Nike Flyfree; Sunglasses/Eyewear designer, Andy Wolf with Blossom; Jury’s Special prize, Lafont with Ouvrage; Prix 1ere classe, Veronika Wildgruber with Lane.
