I would disagree with Guy Wrench's view that home-made web sites do not work unless you are a genius at HTML coding (Letters, March 17). My web site was written using free software (Netscape Composer) and was fine tuned (pictures compressed, loading speeds calculated, hit-counter installed and links assessed) using a free internet service (website-garage.com). Most individual practitioners who want to promote their practices on the net will not wish to sell anything, but to provide information to present or potential patients and as an addition to other forms of advertising, such as Yellow Pages. One of my friends is a self-employed gas turbine engineer and he has also written his own web site, proving that it is not necessary to spend vast sums on promoting your business.
