Two-year-old Leo Frisby’s life changed for the better following a sight test at Specsavers in Hucknall recently.

Leo’s mother, Kerry, had noticed that when Leo was a baby, his eyes would often appear very red and watery and he would screw them up or close his eyes in bright sunlight, but his doctor found nothing wrong. ‘As Leo got older he disliked leaving the house and wanted to play at home. He had very little verbal communication and would easily lose his temper. I took him to the doctor again and was told that it was probably a behavioural problem,’ she said.

After noticing that Leo sat very close to the TV and held books very close while reading, his mother took him for an eye test. He was given a prescription for glasses but also referred to hospital, where he later had optical albinism diagnosed.

Leo received tinted lenses and now plays outside with his brothers – who make sure he wears the correct ones when he is outside. ‘His speech improved within the first few weeks and he was less frustrated as he began to listen and speak more and he started copying other children playing,’ said his mother.
