A week of news - fashion 'statements'

There is some debate as to whether the word 'nerd' has been claimed back as a trendy description this week after a mother forced Tesco to remove 'nerd' t-shirts from shelves.

It was quite an achievement to back this high street giant into a corner via social networks, and its decision exposes these tools for bullying.

American hip hop band N.E.R.D might have had a word to say about that though, while geek chic has become a catwalk buzzword.

Nevertheless, trends resonating through the adult world don't always reflect what goes on in the playground. For example, it is difficult to imagine much respect being handed out to children who insist on free-range eggs in their sandwiches or cycling into school on a folding bike.
