A week of news - lunch with Specsavers

Joe Ayling

Optician news desk was invited out to lunch by the PR team for Specsavers today.

Drivers' vision weighed heavily on the agenda with the multiple's new Eye Check app being discussed at the table as a possible acid test. Similar software has also been developed by the likes of Boots Opticians too.

New driver regulations put the owness on the driver to admit their visual acuity does not meet the new 6/12 standard when filling out relevant forms. But what percentage of the population has even had an eye test in the past five years anyway?

An additional eye check beyond the standard number plate test would at least bridge the gap from an outdated system to stricter standards. In the meantime, Specsavers is planning to increase awareness of driving standards in practice, work with charities and attend driving conferences in a bid to raise awareness of the issue.
