A week of news - underperforming at school

School children are missing out on vital screening despite feedback from teachers that vision correction delivers instant results.

The findings from Specsavers research were reported in this week's news. Three quarters of teachers saw improved performance in children who had recently started wearing spectacles.

Therefore, there really is no excuse for some kids going all the way through school without an eye examination.

A lack of awareness among parents seemed to be the root of the problem though, meaning the profession's message for an eye test every two years is falling on deaf ears.

Let's not walk before we can run though because a compulsory test for school starters is surely the place to start and certainly should not be taken for granted.
