All change on the Optician front

Chris Bennett

Apposite hardly starts to describe the timing of the start of this Blog. I make that point because after many months of sweat and a few tears, Optician has a new design. This spanking new-looking issue is written, laid out and poised to hit the streets this Friday. Trust me it looks great! But back to the blog. As part of a world class publishing company I have been badgered for some time to start a blog. It's not that I wasn't keen to write a web log, more a question of whether anyone would be interested in reading it and what exactly its content should be. After some thought it occured to me that a blog is just the modern equivalent to a column and the mechanism for collecting topics should be the same. The major difference between a blog and column is that a blog lives on the internet and is part of the whole cyberspace thing. What that does is make interaction with readers much easier. In the old days journalists put on their trilby and pounded the streets, befriended policemen and propped up the bar in the local pub to capture the zeitgeist. These days this can be achieved from the comfort of the editorial office -- with a little help from you. So in declaring this blog well and truly open I have a request. I am interested to know how you came to read my ramblings and also what kind of information you would like to see me, and the Optician editorial team, writing about in the future. Just email me. I would offer to buy you a pint in return........ oh the good old days.
