Finally the TFOS subcommittee will address the impact of cosmetic products

I notice that the always excellent Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS), which we can thank for the always useful DEWS II papers to help with our dry eye management, has just announced a new subcommittee.

The TFOS cosmetics subcommittee ‘will address the impact of cosmetic products and procedures on the ocular surface and adnexa.’ I am pleased to see this on the horizon and think it will be important for two reasons.

Firstly, as optometrists develop more advanced skills, as we have regularly reported on in this publication over the past couple of years, the impact of aesthetic and more invasive therapeutic procedures on the ocular surface and adnexa will be of importance for all of us who deal with dry eyes and contact lenses. Whether it be the impact of botulinum injections, lid tucks or intense pulsed light treatments, having one reference source is always useful.
