I had to look twice at the findings of a recent Bausch+Lomb survey that revealed baby oil, beer, coke, petroleum jelly, lemonade, fruit juice and butter are some of the alternatives people have used in place of contact lens solutions. I'm trying to think of a situation that might make someone think, 'I know, a little dab of Lurpack will really help with the comfort of these bothersome lenses', or 'Wow, petroleum jelly, that should clear things up with my vision'. It turns out that 20 per cent of people have tried bizarre and possibly damaging alternatives. Not so surprising is that spit, or saliva featured highly, but given the bacteria contained in the average adult mouth, this is not a recommended form of lubrication. B+L has an alternative - and that's its Biotrue multi-purpose solution http://www.biotrue.com/ that includes a lubricant found naturally in the eyes. Doesn't work so well on toast, though.
