Children screening

Bill Harvey

I recently reviewed a handheld autoscreener capable of detecting anisometropia and strabismus. I got into trouble for not mentioning that the machine had been kindly lent to us by Carleton Optical - at least I cannot be accused of corporate bias. However, the machine works and could easily zap through a whole preschool nusery in an hour resuting in referral for a full eye examionation for all those needing it. GP consortia need to know we exist and are able to make a big impact on children's vision with an appropriate screening and follow up serviuce. The post-Hall report orthoptist driven schemes are too few and far between.
