Science has a lot to answer for, as do those who present it.
This manifests itself in issues big and small, everything from global warming, genetic modification to fracking and on down. Studies are conducted and data bandied about by scientists who then allow others to interpret and communicate the results.
All too often the people who do the interpretation are marketeers, lobbyists and journalists who, understandably, have a vested interest in upping the ante. The claims become more outlandish until other scientists enter the fray. Those scientists, using the same data and studies, explain that those outlandish claims cannot be supported. The general public are left wondering who to believe.
