Hallelujah for Moorfields and the Mail on Sunday. While the second part of that phrase is one I never expected to see in Optician its role in informing the public must be recognised.

Readers of last weekend's Mail On Sunday were greeted with the headline : Soaring rate of eye infections' linked to cheap internet sales'. The tale is based on the experiences of Professor John Dart ( News) of Moorfields Eye Hospital. He has seen a seven-fold increase in the number of Acanthamoeba Keratitis  cases and has come out and said why he thinks that is.

He blames the trend on poorly-regulated  internet sales. People who buy contact lenses on the internet and do not see their optometrist for the 'vital' checks required  as those buying lenses from a practice. That was simple wasn't it.
