Clamping down on plano

Rory Brogan

European trade body Euromcontact is encouraging UK practitioners to send plano cosmetic lenses bought from unfamiliar manufacturers and unregulated suppliers for analysis as to whether they meet EU standards for product safety. The eventual aim is to present the results to the European Commission and to have the lenses included as medical devices under the EC Medical Devices Directive. Samples sent will be analysed against requirements of the General Product Safety Directive. Euromcontact has asked for packaging to be intact and sent with an address for the point of sale, and with a receipt and address for a refund. If you want to get involved, you should post samples to Anne-Marie Wolters, secretary general, Euromcontact at 11 Rue du Moulin d'Hollers, B-1495 Villers-la-Ville, Belgium before April 8.
