Comment: The potential of younger patients

Clinical excellence, pathology and reducing risk are all watchwords of modern optical practice but is the profession guilty of being too cautious? We are constantly being told about the massive changes taking place in retail, technology and customer habits. But there are also changes that the profession has to lead.

This week's round table discussion on kids and teens in contact lenses opened a window on attitudes towards an area of practice many professionals have yet to embrace. The Johnson & Johnson sponsored discussion heard that despite a third of kids and teenagers needing correction, just 8 per cent of that third were contact lens wearers.
