How can universities be urged to play a greater role in supplying a suitable workforce for the optical profession? The issue of the workforce for optics is one that simply won’t go away. Optometry enjoys a position where virtually anyone who qualifies is guaranteed a job, but what measures do universities take to inform students of what might be expected of them or encouragement given to students to become flexible, mobile members of the profession they are being trained to join? Moreover what steps do universities take to ensure students meet the personal standards required by the regulator for entry to the profession?
