Comment: Valuable lessons

Optician has always led the way in optometric education so it seems only fitting to mark the introduction of Optician's CET Extra with a few comments.This week everyone on the Optician Direct email newsletter list will have received the first CET Extra email, a visual recognition CET exercise worth two points.

CETfor optometrists and dispensing opticians has taken many forms over the years. It is now 20 years or so since Optician transformed the world of optometric education with distance CET. Optician's article-based CET courses became the profession norm and made delivery of compulsory CET a practical proposition.

Learning lecture-style or face to face is a good way to improve on and pick up knowledge but it is also expensive both in cash and time. Articles, backed up with multiple-choice questions, proved a much more efficient, and in many cases more effective, method of education than travelling miles and miles to physical events.
