Don’t forget the optometrists

Renewed fears about overstretched eye clinics are making headlines again this week but the role of the optometrist appears severely downplayed.

It is not until 13 paragraphs into a 16 paragraph article by Royal College of Ophthalmologists president Mary Ann Sherratt that the role of the role of the optometrist is actually mentioned.

This despite the report of numerous successful cataract and glaucoma community contracts being won across the country and a widespread willingness among high street optometrists to take on more clinical work.

The news desk is hoping for further reaction to the article in this week’s news – surely optometry is more than just a footnote in all this?
