kamlesh-and-davidLast weekend’s College of Optometrists annual general meeting held alongside the Optometry Tomorrow 2014 conference saw David Parkins appointed the organisation’s new president.

Parkins is assistant director of quality for the NHS Bexley clinical commissioning group, responsible for the assurance of clinical quality and effectiveness of its commissioned services. He also works as an optometrist both in practice and in hospital and is currently working towards a professional doctorate.

The College added that his research work provided the evidence for the effectiveness of ‘repeat measures’ and was now a NICE proven case study.

Outgoing president Dr Kamlesh Chauhan told delegates at the meeting that he had thoroughly enjoyed the two years he had spent in the role and praised Parkins’ work during that time.
