Fining the fakes

There is one import from the Far East that the optical profession may well welcome if a recent story from Singapore is anything to go by. Asiaone reports that authorities in Singapore have come down hard on an optometrist dealing in fake contact lenses. 

While a S$30,000 (£15,000) fine might seem harsh it shows the intent to enforce the law. Given the recent BBC investigation in which a reporter openly bought prescription only medicines from London chemists the UK is clearly lacking in its ability to enforce control on the supply of medical goods.
