
It was back in mid-November 2018, when an unassuming post on social media caught my eye. It was from the charity Crisis, which supports people experiencing homelessness, calling for volunteers to provide eye care services.
That one moment in time scrolling on social media proved to be serendipitous. It was because I’d been thinking a lot about how, as an optometrist, I could make a difference for this group of patients.
As optometrists, caring for others is at the core of our mission, and I’d seen what seemed to me an increase in the number of people sleeping rough on the streets as I travelled a lot for my job at the time.
