It’s important that when we make changes to how we regulate we have a thorough, open discussion with the professions, with patients and with other stakeholders. That’s why it is so heartening to have received such a big response to our recent standards consultation.

Being a registered healthcare professional means committing to and observing high professional standards. From the conversations I have with registrants this is a source of great pride. I know too that many registrants are keen to develop their skills and knowledge and take up opportunities to deliver a wider range of community eye care services – in collaboration with GPs, pharmacists, hospital optometrists, ophthalmologists and orthoptists.
