The Transport minister admitted this week he had no idea that there were plans to relax the sight test standard for motorists. When quizzed on the issue he admitted as much. His response not only professed ignorance but even suggested he thought relaxation was a bad idea. It looks like optics could have missed out on a massive opportunity to win the backing of a front bencher. Perhaps not if it follows up the question.
We all know politicians are busy people and while it might be a bit embarrassing for the minister the real loser is optics and road safety.
But this isn't an isolated case.
