Last week’s In Focus on the true cost of an eye exam has drawn further comments – recognising that NHS fees are set too low in England but citing the wider potential of private eye exams.

Optical Fees Negotiating Committee (OFNC) secretary Ann Blackmore said: ‘The OFNC has been clear for many years that the GOS fees we receive for providing NHS eye exams do not reflect the true cost of that service. As we have made clear the sight test fee is not simply about pay, it is also about a fair contribution to the costs of providing the service.
