With so many new faces entering the profession and optometry courses seemingly starting up every year it seems competition for jobs in the sector is set to continue rising.
This year’s Optician Workplace supplement in October stressed how moving further afield into rural or coastal areas can open doors and even provide higher earnings. However, in major cities well supplied with optical practices, optometrists might be taking worried look over their shoulder.
Fear not though, says the College of Optometrists in this week’s news. Despite the influx of newly qualified optometrists – 335 at the latest College diploma ceremony – an aging population and rising eye care needs will ensure career opportunity for some time yet, it says in this week’s news.
