I have been on a training camp with a group of opticians from around Europe as part of the Oakley Transitions Ironman Team I was chatting to the Spanish team member who is retraining. He said in Spain optometrists are used as salesman and he is taking the exams to become a fireman. Firemen in Spain earn three times the salary of optometrists and are highly respected in the community. I had to explain the situation was somewhat different in the UK.
