Size does matter
Re ‘Featuring frames’ in July 21, I wish to discuss some of the points raised by Andrea Dorigo of Luxottica. First the example he used of a cheap pair of trousers is unfortunate.
My experience is that trousers, however cheap, are available in a range of leg and waist sizes, (much like my patients, I don’t have customers), and you can probably achieve a reasonable fit without much modification. However, the vast majority of his frames are only available in one size, that definitely doesn’t fit at all.
This begs the question about the term ‘Bespoke’. This implies that the whole item is ‘individually tailored’. The frames he supplies are not. They are generic and only the skill and craftsmanship of dispensing opticians can convert them into something approaching what can only be termed as an approximate fit.
