I am writing to you about the TV programme Driving me crazy shown on ITV1 at 9pm on May 22.

My concern is that the programme highlighted the issue of safety of elderly drivers. Eyesight was put forward as an important factor, but was tested by a GP, monocularly, on one of dirtiest looking test charts I have seen in a long time.

My concern is that the programme highlighted the issue of safety of elderly drivers. Eyesight was put forward as an important factor, but was tested by a GP, monocularly, on one of dirtiest looking test charts I have seen in a long time.

At no stage was optometry mentioned. We are clearly the very best people to be performing the role of checking vision for driving, which was emphasised by the poor job done on national TV. My view is that all drivers should have a full eye examination at least every two years. Furthermore, I feel that this should be the law.
