Seeking support for voucher idea

In response to Roger Owens’ letter (November 3), he may be interested to know that a dozen optometrists in Worcestershire have collectively written to Health Minister Rosie Winterton proposing that the GOS 1 form be turned into a voucher towards the cost of an eye examination.

Ms Winterton did not offer a personal reply, but her civil servant adviser did reply stating that she (the civil servant) did not think this was a good idea (not surprising as it would reveal to the public how little value the government places on an eye examination). The AOP appears equally dismissive of the idea.
