There are many important things happening in optometry at the moment, but it is important to remember what we are here for. This has been brought home to me recently when several elderly patients mentioned their concerns about low energy light bulbs.

There are many important things happening in optometry at the moment, but it is important to remember what we are here for. This has been brought home to me recently when several elderly patients mentioned their concerns about low energy light bulbs.

I should point out that I attempt to be as green as the next person. Indeed, Mrs Moneo never fails to remind me of the large size of my carbon footprint if I waste electricity at home. However, my elderly patients have told me how they struggle to see reading material using these bulbs and how poor the quality of emitted light is in dark areas of their houses. Most worryingly, areas such as foot wells of staircases appear to present particular problems.
